Sakiori Kotatsugake - Edo Era Indigo RugIndigo sakiori kotatsugake, or hearth cover. 'Sakiori' is a woven fabric that is produced from worn out cloth and garments torn thinly and then woven tightly into clothing and other products for daily use. This kotatsugake has a very rich and handsome quality variegated hues of indigo from years of use and subtle red and white stripes. A lot of consideration went into the creation of this piece. In overall very good condition, considering it's age.
Silk and cotton threads that could be spun and sold provided income for the household
On the proper front there is an equally captivating mix of recycled hanten (perhaps nobori) overdyed indigo cottons
In excellent condition without rips or tears
