This 14 year old Mortlach 2007 began life in a small batch of hogshead casks before being reracked into a single fresh sherry butt for a 16 month finishing period, and ended up turning out a whopping 697 bottles at its tantalisingly perfect 52% natural cask

This remarkable 8-year-old Bunnahabhain 2013 started life in a refill ex-bourbon hogshead before being finished in a cask that previously contained Vino de Color

2009 & 2010 harvests before being matured for a minimum of 9 years in 39 Bourbon barrels & 2 Oloroso Sherry Casks

but this wooden box presentation was standard throughout the 1990s and the distillery manager's signature belongs to Mike Nicholson

25% premium French oak and 19% casks previously used to age Vin Doux Naturel fortified wines

before the full-on Talisker pepperiness takes over

before switching the spirit back into ex-bourbon casks for further ageing

A rather tasty-looking 1968 Tomintoul bottled in 2012 by Gordon & MacPhail under their Rare Old label at a very drinkable natural strength of 45

with just over 800 bottles produced at their preferred strength of 47

backed by dry edible seaweed
